Welcome to an all new series here on my blog, Decor Galore! This series will put a spotlight on spaces, examining their interior design, creative interactions, and tiny details that put it above the rest. I'm kicking the series off by inspecting one of my own spaces, and we're starting off small.
I joined SmallWorlds back in 2009 when you got to choose between four different basic, small space layouts to be your starting home space. Now-a-days, beginners receive a two-room starter house equipped with the essentials. I was so pumped when this update was released, but concerned about how to acquire one of my own since I had joined before the update. Easy fix, all I needed to do was create another avatar on my account, and that avatar arrived in his starter house once put in-game. I now use that home as my townhouse.
The small starter home poses a great many challenges when it comes to decorating. When you want to have a kitchen, family room, dinning area, foyer, bedroom, bathroom, and patio all in the same tiny space. It becomes very difficult to arrange and place the desired pieces for each area in ways that are both visually appealing and functional. Sometimes you won't always get what you want (sorry guys, but you'll have to go outside if you need a bathroom). Let's begin the tour!

When you first arrive at Les Rois Townhouse, you find yourself standing in the front garden. Before you stands a red brick house with white trim around the windows and the Dark Wood front door. I absolutely love the contrast of these colors. When I picture a red brick house, this is the image I receive in my head. Plus, I think the siding texture for the outside walls look a bit tacky. Designing a garden and patio was quite a feat. I wanted greenery that felt like it filled up the space, but all the while still looking organized. The hedges around the boarder up against the fence helped with that, as well as the larger tree next to the Stone Wall and the Conical Trees. I. Love. Conical. Trees. I wish SmallWorlds releases massive versions of them, similar to cypress trees. I. Love. Cypress. Trees. I think they are the perfect accent piece to any mansion's garden.
I knew the patio was going to be small and simple, and the table and chairs fit perfectly into place. Although it looks pleasing, it's actually not functional. The combination of the chair and the hedge block your way onto the patio. It's all an illusion... The Stone Wall is a great separator that distinguishes the garden and patio apart from each other, creating two distinct spaces. A separator is a great way to break up larger spaces or rooms. These can be anything from dividers (obviously), to bookshelves or doors, when used in a creative sense. It all depends on the space you're trying to split up. You'll see what I mean when we get to the kitchen.

Once inside, you're greeted with a foyer consisting of two small stools surrounded by Yuccas, a Master White Rug, and a black and white image of a sketch of a llama. Nothing has represented me more than that picture. If you haven't noticed by now, I kind of have a monochromatic vibe about everything I do. I think it's largely because it's simple and easy to design and match with. Plus, most of the high end furniture (Master items) has a monochrome color pallet. I'll change my color scheme when OutSmart releases more furniture. From the foyer you get a peek into the kitchen over the counter. Just don't set anything on the stove! I really like this open floor plan design.

Continuing on to the family room, we pass the tiny dinning area. Simple, easy, I had to work with what I got. When I thought of who would be living in this house, I pictured a couple. Two people need two seats. Plus it's more intimate. And if you don't want to sit in the dinning area, you can always take a bar stool at the kitchen counter.

I really like this living room, it's very proportionate. Although I do have a pet peeve that shows up with this couch. If you see how I'm sitting on this gorgeous couch in the picture above (I love the couch design, I was hoping OutSmart would come out with an L-sectioned couch someday), just no, okay? I think it would be more reasonable if our avatars laid down on this portion of the couch, or sat with our legs extended. My eyes hurt just looking at this. Plus, I think my legs are going through the couch. Enough about the couch, couch rant is over. The drapes over the window and the lights make it seem like the space is lived in. The pantry cupboard off to the side is meant to be a situational storage cabinet or closet of some sorts. Just use your imagination. The overhead light fixture adds elegance to this miniature relaxation station.

As far as small kitchens go, this is one of my favorites. I managed to squeeze in all the necessities so that they are all functional as well as pleasing to the eye. Complete with Master Chef Refrigerator, Dishwasher, Gas Range, and Kitchen Sink, there is plenty of counter space left over to display your culinary master pieces. The additional shelving on the wall provides another area for storing items, although as you can see, I have not taken that opportunity. I think I like them better plain. The Master Black Glass Sliding Door acts as a separator, dividing the kitchen area from the rest of the main room. I think this really completes the kitchen.

Onto the final area of this space, the bedroom! Sometimes the monochrome atmosphere of my spaces become a bit too much for me, so for this bedroom I decided to add a little color to the walls and floor. This really separates this room from the other, making it feel like a different space. I did stick to my monochrome theme for the furniture, for the same reason I mentioned before (release more furniture OutSmart, thanks), but I snuck in color through the use of the Picture Frame and the Large LED TV, which in my opinion, isn't very large, but it was perfect for this space. Adding a bookcase or shelving unit, as well as rugs, adds life to your spaces. They're the glue of interior decorating.
Don't forget about lighting as well. I tend to change the time of day to evening for most of my spaces, (18:00, Spring, to be exact) so that the lighting I place into my space really glows. This also gives your Fragrences and auras from wears a boost, giving you a stunning look! Instead of lamps on the bed side tables, I added Twin Direction Wall Lights on the walls on either side of the bed to add a modern touch.
I hoped you enjoyed this virtual tour of Les Rois Townhouse. I had a lot of fun creating this space. Check it out for yourself here! I look forward to checking out more spaces in the future. If you have a space that you wish to be featured on Decor Galore!, please leave a comment below or on the Blog's forum thread here! Give me something to do with my days. Thanks for reading about my virtual life!
